Downes Guitars, Model "101H" Headless guitar
Purchasing one tomorrow… my brother had a headless by them and it sounds (since he put EMGs in it) and plays incredibly well, agree with you these guitars have probably the best frets I’ve ever seen…
What an excellent review! Thank you. SOLD!
I just put one in on a PRS swamp ash special and it's crazy good! Perfectly balanced, stays in tune and adds some real snap to the tone too. All the awesomeness of a floating whammy like an Ibanez edge or routed Floyd without all the annoying micro tuners. One caveat, the arm sits too high off the bridge and is not adjustable, so I had to macguyver a little by removing the little piece of plastic that blocked the arm from going deeper into the bridge and now the arm height is perfect. I may buy another arm just so I can bend it to be straight like the PRS or a strat arm.
Great demo. But just wanted to know did you do the 2nd video of the amp with pedals? I tried to find it and couldn’t, thanks
How's the upper fret access on this? I want to get a new 4 string as I recently got a new fiver after years. I play high up and write a lot up there so upper fret access is super important to me!
This is the best demo I’ve come across on the Fender Super Champ X2
Still using your Super Champ X2?
Thanks for posting this! Just bought a Vega-trem equipped Strat and you answered several questions that were on my mind.
You are the only person I can find who plays thorugh multimedia speakers....wish you could show how to hook it up.
Loaded my RG550 RF with Mo Joe and Paf Joe and I love it to death. Pickup selector in RG550 reissue models are actually lower quality that most people think. Mine is acting up I had to replaced it with a better quality... I never had issues with all my other prestige and my good old rg370dx. Doesn't only happens to me, lots of people on internet as well.
will the knob get in your way when playing palm mute like a strat would?
got the RG565, such a beast
greetings friend I need your advice What guitar do you recommend buying? (Jackson Pro plus dka indigo blue, Ibanez jem 77pbfp, Kramer Sm-1 candy Blue)
All great guitars. But, if I had to pick just one, I'd go with the Jem. For 2 simple reasons. The body is far more comfortable than both the others, and it will go up in value more than the others. All of them play and sound great. The Jem is just slightly better IMO. Which is also reflected in its price.
@@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear Thank you very much for the advice I really like your videos never stop
The standard GW2 has a MUCH better bridge and nut system. The grub screws on the GW2 Pro are an S-Show to deal with. and the bridge/saddles has terrible adjustment tolerances like pointed out in the video. The GW2's system is so much more convenient and stable for string changes, set up, and tuning stability. It's almost like EART made a mistake and put the hardware that should have been on the Pro version on the standard version. Good thing is the standard version is $200 less. Modding a $599 guitar to make it work is insane, especially when the PRS SE CE Standard Satin is $499.99. The "fancy woods" making a tonal difference is snakeoil.
After having mine for two years it is my go to. Most comfortable!! I play mostly standing and my Paul’s get heavy after a couple hours whereas this one doesn’t. Locking tuners new switch. Intonation and nut are good. Comfortable!!! Great review sir….
😅i was going to buy a knew tremolo machine, thanks for video....
man you play really good you earned +1 sub
the neck is between c and d then it is C# neck lol xD
Can anybody tell me what size Allen wrench that those set screws use in the block? This has been an issue for me for quite some time and Sweetwater had a ride up on it but I'm a visual video guy and appreciate what you did. I hear that you can take that spring out and tighten it up a little bit might solve the problem. So it looks like I'm going to be taking the strings off and popping the block.
You have explained everything beautifully I just can't find such adapters Where did you manage to buy Could you give us the contact details of this shop?

@@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear - thank you !
Any one know what size Ball bearings are used. I think it would be wise to have spares
Very helpful, thank you!
I just bought the same 83”candy apple red. 2 knob with maple neck. Great playing and sounding guitars.
This is probably the *best* UA-cam example of this guitar on the web, hats off to you and your bad f'in ASS. But now we must break up...boo hoo I like the fact one of the selling points is Gibson pups and then they don't give you a tone knob. At end of day this is a Chinese guitar with a fat ass neck, not worth the cabbage. That's why you can still get one at AMS for $80 less than listed aka $600 brand new. I beat up a salesman just to see how motivated they were to get rid of them, they are. The resale value going down before it's sold, lol !! After your upgrades it's a Grr - suck it up and double that and you have a choice of real Gibson's plek'd from factory, fret nibs, case candy up the ass, almost play themselves ( I have the Iommi Monkey SG) but more important made in Nashville and will go up in value. I gave Epi a chance - the Muse SG, the LE '58 Korina Explorer (not the new rip off $1200 one) and more but nahh - we had to part. Ironically the Epi I kept is the $179 SG Special w.rosewood and Killswitch Pot !! But quality wise playability if you wanna be a cheapskate the CV Squires KILL Epi at $400 give or take especially the CV 50s Tele and Strat - both together cost less than this. But this LOOKS cool. Too bad they messed it up with a Chinese made old version of a non floating Floyd, if you are going to screw it up might as well go all the way. 🎸
Seriously, thank you for making these videos, it brings me joy when you got excited by the sounds emitting from this guitar from 4:56 to 5:12, keep being amazing!
your playing's great man. nice jammin here
You’re a monster player.
This is one of the best videos , give a nice representation of being sat in front of it. Good amps! Everything in a little lightweight box is awesome!
I used to play professionally and I have Fenders, Charvels, and bunch of guitars including Ibanez, etc.. I bought a Virgo Fusion (first guitar I ever bought off Amazon) last year and I really like it. It plays great and sounds great. I did add a roller string tree for the B and high E. I was getting some odd sounds behind the nut and I like the increased tension with the tree. I wound up buying two used HSS Capricorn Classics afterwards, one in matte baby blue (same color as Fender Sonic Blue) with a dark roasted maple board, I think it was a limited run, and one in gloss yellow/butter (same color as Fender Buttercream) with a rosewood board and roasted maple neck which is a lighter shade than the blue one. The ones made in 2022 have darker maple necks (baked longer) than the 2023 models. I added roller string trees on both Capricorns as well. I got all three for under $1000 with tax and shipping. You can't beat that, especially in this shit economy. If you're handy with setting up guitars and tech work they're a great deal. The pickups sound good, the necks are great, the frets are done well, they look cool. I don't give a f*ck about the name on the head stock. Either you can play or can't play. I can adapt to pretty much any guitar. By the way I think these are made in the same factory as EART.
Yeah, I’m down with the 84 Floyd rose
The tone is MEGA. What a guitar!
cool review, thanks
Have this one. Great amp, but I can’t get a good 70’s classic rock sound out of it on any setting. I can come close with my Les Paul, but just not there. It’s either over the top or lacking that certain something. With the Tele, the Tele sounds like it was made for country no matter what setting I use. I see people on UA-cam get a great classic rock sound with a Tele and have to wonder if it’s some kind of computer wizardry.
I have that same guitar. Knew nothing about it, but absolutely fell in love when I saw it. Picked it up for a heck of a deal, and I love it so much.
can you look into the Ibanez RG421PB one?
so what makes this better tho?
That chair…..
I love the chords you use. Very modern metal.
Should have watched your vid before getting mine. I’m a noob so no way I’ll start working on the guitar and the point of being “cheap” is not to put money for a guy to fix it. The G string problem on mine make it unplayable, the E string is impossible (for me) to get in tune on all the frets. The screw coming out of the “headstock” ripped my fingers off 😳. Anyway, this one’s going back where she came from. Thks! Take care.
What tension strings did you use?
I think I used 009-046.
@@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear oh perfect exactly what I have. Thank you!
Considering getting this guitar. I just got a genesis but the super wizard neck profile is too thin for me personally and hurts my wrist which is a shame because it looks great and is super easy to play. Is the neck on this guitar thicker perhaps comparable to a DK24 neck? Thanks!
It's definitely thicker than the wizard neck. Not quite a dk24 though.
Great review! Very thorough. I love the look of this guitar, but not usually a fan of boat necks. Would the neck pocket accept a standard Fender-spec replacement do you think? Thanks!
Not sure about the neck pocket spec... I've never considered it... I love the big neck profile. It's an interesting idea though, because I'm not a huge fan of the Samick headstock on this.
@@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear Can you measure the size of the neck at the heel? I don't like baseball-bat necks; the tuning peg schema would be just plain awkward.
Ibanez, with their easy-to-remember model names. 😂
Killer playing Chris! I'm excited to get mine! I'll be doing a full mod lol
What pots are you using?
I kept the stock Fender set that came with the Ultra series. 250K
Thank you.
It’s suppose to be Madagascar Ebony, which looks similar to Rosewood, but it’s not.
Honestly, when people ask if a solid state amp 'works with pedals,' they're almost always referring to Overdrives and Distortions. Modulation, Time-based, Octave, and Wah pedals go hand-in-glove with Solid State amps.
What did you end up doing to this guitar?
Good locking tuners, Fender Noiseless pickups and a 10-way "freeway" switch.
Wow ! Incredible playing !! On an absolutely incredible playing and sounding guitar! Thank you for the great review !
Is this neck bigger than the Ibanez Fireman neck?
Not sure. I've not had the fireman...yet.
